Rodney
Thompson- Artist Statement
My work often explores divisions of space, loosely based on grids or geometric shapes, but with an influence of organic nature. Imperfect lines and patterns emulate the geometries of the natural world in a wabi-sabi appreciation of natural process. The grid, for me, is also iconic for the human need to organize, catalog, and make sense of the unknown and mysterious nature of our existence. The interface of human influence and the flow of nature are of interest to me. The blurring of the self-imposed distinction between humans and the rest of nature is seen in the uneven grids and lines implying that even in our attempt at separation and control, our imperfection is a part of nature as well.
