	Margaret Suchland - Artist Statement My inspiration comes from the effects of time and use on everyday objects; the random marks, specks and smudges; the worn edges and discolorations - these are all subtle traces of past human presence. They portray a passing of time - a presence of an absence. My recent works are from an on-going series called “Signs & Symbols.” The word “sign” is defined as: effect, symbol, ghost, token, telltale, mark - all of these words describe the intention of the work to portray the lingering evidence of human existence. I consider all my work as experiments. Involvement in this experimentation and in the processes of my work are important to me; the act of trusting an idea, caring for it, seeing it through and then letting it have a life of its own.
