Lora Alaniz – Artist Statement

Colloidal Series

Human relationships live in a colloidal state of subdivision, suspension, a continuous deterioration and transformation. The actual foam material I am using comes from physically unraveling the structural threads of the mattress my partner and I share. The layers of material underneath the taut outer cover were transformed into new sculptural forms that interact with one another. The material's scientific structure lends itself to stand in metaphorically for our relationship to one another--fluid.
