Kate
Timmerman - Artist Statement
The physical
relationships created in my work allude to intellectual and natural
references provoking an experience for the viewer. The handmade eccentric
quality of the painted, stained, carved and layered wax surfaces combined
with found objects and non-traditional materials allow me to engage
in themes of alienation, mystery, betrayal, consequence, courage, mortality
and non-violence. Turning inert materials to the service of meaning
is for me, the essence of communication. The physicality of materials
and the link between aesthetics and social, moral and political imperatives
is of great interest to me.
