John Zimmerman- Artist Statement

The Incommunicado Series consists of abstracted human jaw bones constructed out of Porcelain. These works began as an attempt to express the idea of a breakdown in communication. As the series evolved it became less important to express the original idea and more important to create loaded and impactful sculptures. In the end I wanted universality /specificity, fluidity/solidity, intimacy/harshness, and beauty/ugliness.
