John Dempcy - Artist Statement
Through the lens of the natural sciences, I reference microbiology and genetics to guide a process of endless variation and nuance within a limited framework. Form follows process as the intrinsic character of the paint builds and shapes a distinct topography while color signals relationships between constituent parts. The abstract compositions are characterized by subtle modulations of shape, color, and pattern.
In my paintings, I explore the myriad ways in which life plays out at the microscopic level. My work strives to convey a sense of the balance that is struck between order and chaos, growth and decay, and processes that reverberate in nature.
