Jessica
Drenk - Artist Statement
An arrowhead collection: pieces of the past found and gathered as proof of what has passed. An insect collection: bodies pinned in rows, classified, a scientific database.
A book collection: thoughts recorded and kept safe, the mind laid out on paper to be visited in glimpses.
These groupings evoke our ephemeral nature, the continual changing of culture in the face of time, and the desire to create permanence out of life and thoughts which are fleeting. Bibliophylum is both a combination of these collections and also an entirely new body. Each piece has been separated, carved, from full books, and are now gathered into a new formation with new associations.
