Jessica
Drenk - Artist Statement
My work is a response to, and experimentation with, materials. Each series of work begins with a specific material: books, PVC pipes, rolls of toilet paper, or planks of wood, and my own desire to delve into that material—to play with it, reshape it, and change it into something new. Every material requires its own treatment, and I enjoy the process of innovating my own ways of working with each. Often I am surprised at what each material can become—shapes and textures I had not anticipated and am pleased to find. In the end, I strive for pieces that exhibit a balance; balance between the original material and my own vision, chaos and order, contrasting textures, the familiar and the new.
