Jeff Juhlin – Artist Statement

My recent encaustic work often references biology, geology and other natural organizational phenomenon. I explore repetitive connectivity of pattern and structure in the natural environment. The work also has to do with construction and deconstruction, adding and taking away, composing and decomposing, removing to reveal, adding to obscure. These of course are all processes of nature and are also a natural consequence of the Encaustic process, which is an ideal medium for this exploration. In the end the work still comes from unknown and compelling notions from somewhere inside that seek to externalize themselves. Exploring that mystery is the most important part of the process.
