Hannah
D Mott - Artist Statement
In this
series, I am exploring the beauty and mystery of water. I see water
as central in the complex webs of interdependency of all life. Water
is both source and mirror, reflecting the state of health of our planet.
Water has regenerative power as it is in continual metamorphosis.
Water is
an element of purification and integral to many rituals in every culture
around the world. It has been understood as a powerful symbol for wisdom,
the unconscious, the feminine and the unknown.
Encaustic paints, which are applied to a support in a molten liquid
state, are a willing ally in my exploration of the sensual, luminous,
and labile nature of one of the most critical elements out of which
our very existence was created and is sustained.
