Fork & Spoon collage

David Adix - Artist Statement

First and foremost I am interested with form and space, color and the influence light has on these elements. From these ideas emerge work in landscape, structure and ultimately a sense of place. One of my favorite things to do is to drive through the country side, a back road or even deserted alley and see an old building or part of a dwelling in collapse and see how these structural forms seem to defy time and become symbiotic with their environment.

My current body of work explores the relationship of environment and place and how that energy registers memory and time. My intention is to create a familiar place where a deep recognition evolves. Viewers experience simultaneous moments of containment and openness, proximity and distance, density of layer and volume. By working in collage, mixed media materials, vintage and hand crafted paper, I am able to communicate these places more accurately and find the essence of a place. Out of this I wish to create a deep awareness of something that contains mystery and yet is understood.
