Cari Hernandez - Artist Statement I have met the most challenging and fulfilling art medium in encaustic. I know that I have so much to learn, hone, and perfect every time I step into my studio. Currently I have found myself working in three major series: Grasses, Color, Organics. A field of grass in Kaupo, Hawaii inspires Grasses. On the south side of Haleakala there grows an incredible range of wild grasses. I have spent hours just taking in the beauty of the tall wispy grass, bluest sky, and delicate clouds in between. I have been creating painting after painting, hoping to capture a bit of the beauty I experienced there. Color is
a series depicting my passion for expression through pure color. The
paintings in this category are mostly bold abstracts, giving over to
color to make the first impact. They represent my joy in pairing colors
to play off of one another. This series is the most expressive of the
process rather than the outcome; the intention lies in the creation.
