Atticus Adams – Artist Statement In the spring of 1845 Henry David Thoreau said, “I went to the woods because I wished to live deliberately, to front only the essential facts of life, and see if I could not learn what it had to teach, and not, when I came to die, discover that I had not lived.” Thus, Thoreau began his famous life experiment on the edge of Walden pond. In the fall of 2005 I came to Pittsburgh. Here I found a place that I could simplify my life and focus on making art. I wanted to take materials that I found inherently beautiful: metal mesh, wire, broken auto glass, etc… and see what I could learn from them. By providing an intuitive creative direction of their own, I became engaged in the mystery of the creative process and the joy of that experience. Quoting Thoreau again: Pittsburgh has been my Walden. Resume Education
